about

We both did Fine Art degrees then met each other some years later whilst apprenticed to the potter, Rupert Spira, in the late 90s. Shortly afterwards, we set up our workshop in rural Carmarthenshire where we still are.

We make wheel thrown, stoneware pots and usually fire in reduction.

We have always worked in partnership and it isn’t easy to define our roles but since the first few years James has done all the throwing and Tilla has done most of the decorating and designing.

Functionality is important to us; when an object is designed and made with skill and care it is a joy to use and can become a cherished possession, enriching daily life. There is often a character in hand-made objects which we like; a kind of warmth or comfort, perhaps due to its human connection.

Our work has won several national awards and is in the V&A permanent collection.

We are fellows of the Craft Potters Association.
